Reviewing and correcting the style
When translating into another language many mistakes are possible if particular attention is not paid to words that appear to have a similar meaning in our own language. These are called ‘false friends’ and are words which seem easy to translate but do not mean what they appear to mean. Thus compromise is not always the same as ‘compromiso’ (commitment), ‘assist’ does not mean ‘asistir’ (attend), and in Spain you leave the house with a ‘carpeta’ (file) under your arm, which is very different from a carpet (alfombra). For this reason, a correct translation will always ensure that these errors do not occur.
